Our Teaching Methodologies
With its focus on an activity-based approach to the four essential skills — speaking, listening, reading, and writing — Lingua Nav (LN) is a game-changer in language learning. Its immersive approach promotes experimentation, as learners are encouraged to identify patterns in speech and in written texts. It also encourages learners to immerse themselves in authentic materials such as brochures and menus, thereby mastering grammar and vocabulary in real-life contexts.

Our LN method is also linked to Communicative Language Teaching (CLT), a significant innovation in facilitating the development of the four critical skills in language learning — listening, speaking, reading, and writing. As students acquire confidence to communicate in a foreign language, they will also begin to develop an awareness of grammar through interaction, through extended conversation and roleplay.
Exposure to real-world interaction is a core part of our LN-CLT approach from the beginning of the teaching and learning process. Our expectation is clear: active communication serves to converge the different skills. This is achieved through a wide range of teaching materials: textbooks, newspapers, magazines, videos, posters, menus and transport timetables. Relevant grammar is acquired in tandem with advances in vocabulary, whilst engaging in activities that develop these core skills.
Advantages for Students
At San Pandas, assessment of learners focuses on students' communicative competence rather than their memorisation abilities. The desired outcomes are that students grow in their confidence through activities which foster rapid advances in language skills in real-world scenarios. The resulting growth in learners' confidence will reinforce the learning process.
Our focus on an activity-based approach to teaching will accelerate the acquisition of the skills that enable students to become confident communicators. With this achievement, students will become competent communicators, able to use the correct grammar, vocabulary and sentence structure in real-life scenarios, and their verbal dexterity will allow them to adapt as circumstances dictate. As we said earlier, students are assessed on their ability to engage in authentic conversation rather than rote memorisation of selected vocabulary. Our focus is on giving students the confidence to engage in original and spontaneous conversation.
We focus on three fundamental principles
Consistency
Study smart — steady, regular practice that compounds over time.
Immersion
Total immersion in language-rich, authentic, real-world contexts.
Strategic Practice
Deliberate activities that build genuine communicative competence.
Self-Direction: The Key to Learning
Our live online synchronous and asynchronous lessons will also promote self-directed learning. This is critical, as students are expected to manage real-world interactions. And this requires students to take a proactive approach to developing their core language and communication skills. With our LN-CLT approach to language teaching, students are expected to fully engage in class activities such as role-play and group assignments. This will allow our teachers to move beyond the traditional approach focused on memorisation and repetition.
Our Approach to AI
Whether online or in a traditional classroom setting, AI is a tool and complement, not a substitute for student-teacher interaction. AI is used to equip students and to provide opportunities to engage in simulated workplace interactive communication skills. So, AI is used to complement and reinforce lessons learned from roleplay and organised and informal interactions.

General Guidelines
Our goal is to develop the learners' ability to engage in meaningful interaction with other learners of the same language. For us, immersion and interaction are the approaches our teachers use to develop fluency in our students. This is the approach used by San Pandas' LN-CLT, together with our culture immersion. The main features of LN-CLT are the following:
- ✓ Our primary focus is on total immersion to speed up interaction before grammar focus.
- ✓ Effective communication (including vocabulary and grammar accuracy; otherwise, the communication is unintelligible).
- ✓ Fluency in language use by engaging in meaningful interaction (there must be a reason for the conversation to occur; we don't do “speaking for the sake of speaking”).
- ✓ Learning to deal with students' limitations in their communicative competencies (by teaching strategies).
Language helps preserve traditions, identify benefits, and connect individuals with their heritage and community.
Contextual and immersive learning — immersing students in language-rich activities such as role play.
Steps in Learning a Language
Practical habits our learners use to build real, lasting fluency.
- 1 Focus on communication rather than perfection.
- 2 Set measurable and realistic goals.
- 3 Shadowing — repeating what you hear aloud, mimicking the pronunciation and interaction.
- 4 Find speaking partners via apps like HelloTalk and Tandem for spontaneous conversation. Use Duolingo to grow your vocabulary.
- 5 Set language learning goals.
- 6 Learn the ‘right’ words first.
- 7 Study smart — not how much time, but consistency.
- 8 Practice dialogue regularly.
- 9 Engage with native speakers as often as possible.
- 10 Use language in real life as often as possible.
- 11 Don’t worry about making mistakes. Embrace making mistakes as long as you try to learn from them.
- 12 Write new words along with their meaning and make example sentences with them.
- 13 Don’t get bogged down with grammar.
- 14 Look for patterns and relationships between words.
- 15 Prioritise key concepts and vocabulary.
- 16 Learn to listen to stimulate your brain, so watch movies and listen to music, and read newspapers, magazines and social media.
